Distinguished Women Scholars Lecture-Professor Alice Shapley "Decoding the Contents of Distant Galaxies" Understanding the formation and evolution of galaxies remains one of the greatest challenges of modern cosmology. In this public lecture, Professor Shapley will describe how her observations of distant galaxies with the world’s largest telescopes are helping to address outstanding questions in galaxy formation: how galaxies are built, evolve and grow their black holes.
Professor Shapley is a world-renowned astrophysicist whose research focuses on galaxy evolution. She is the recipient of numerous prestigious awards, honours and fellowships, including Packard and Sloan fellowships and the Aaronson lectureship. This event is free and open to the public.
