Did you ever wonder what TV star Tim Allen of Home Improvement, William Bennett, former BC Premier and Peter Coors, Coors Brewing Company Chairman have in common? They were all Toastmasters members.


For the last 10 years Discovery Toastmasters has been helping teachers, preachers, businesspeople and homemakers improve their communication and leadership skills.

�Toastmasters changed my life,� says businesswoman Marlene Wright. �I have become a better leader because of Toastmasters.�

You are invited to help celebrate the club�s 10th anniversary at 6:30 pm on September 13 at Sequoia Springs Golf Course. Please join us for an evening of inspiring speeches and success stories and don�t be surprised if you find yourself joining.

Keynote speaker Baraa Ali from Iraq is an entertainer and a BC engineering graduate. Hear how this young man came to Canada to study engineering and discovered Toastmasters. Not only did he graduate but in the process he fine-tuned his speaking skills. Today, he is on his way to becoming a professional speaker and musician.

Like many of us, speaker Isabelle Southcott was frustrated by the way former employers did things. That frustration was enough to set the wheels in motion to create her business, Powell River Living Magazine, six years ago.

Three other speakers will inspire us with their testimonials: Teacher Bill Black has been busy fundraising and increasing awareness about Cystic Fibrosis. Toastmasters helped entrepreneur Jeff King gain the confidence and skills to pursue his dream of opening his own business. Entrepreneur Maggie Komar says Toastmasters enhanced her public relations skills, which in turn has helped her business.
