The Discovery Passage Passage is a great example of communities pulling together. It's definitely a GREEN event. No motors allowed. It's a fun event, not a fund raiser.

The Discovery Passage Passage is more than a small boat event. It brings together first nations people, dragon boat groups, corporate groups, clubs and individuals from all walks of life.

What is it that draws people to this water? What is so inviting and somewhat challenging about this passage? The tides are swift and the water is cold. It's as if the waters were saying to us, "Come and play here. We challenge you." There is a small element of risk, but with over 150 paddlers and safety boats there is safety in numbers.

Highly experienced paddlers and novices enjoy the Discovery Passage Passage. For some people it's their first time in a canoe. There are individuals involved in this event from age 8 to age 84. Some of these boats are home built, some over 50 years old while others are high tech manufactured craft.

The event is people pulling together to re-enact a passage from the past. It's GREEN. It's a memory that lasts a year. Discover the Discovery Passage Passage!

Once every year, Campbell Riverites and visitors have the opportunity to challenge themselves in the Discovery Passage Passage, paddling from Campbell River to Cape Mudge village in all manner of human powered watercraft. Challenge yourself on our tidal waters and meet our neighbours at Cape Mudge Village in a traditional welcome ceremony. [Safety maintained by Coast Guard and Campbell River yacht club]

This is a free and family oriented event. The rules are simple: no fees, no prizes and no motors. You must wear a personal safety device. If you live here, this is an essential local experience. If you are a visitor this is an opportunity to participate in a fun event with historic roots. To participate, register online at the Discovery Passage Passage website: incampbellriver.net

We will gather at the parking lot next to the Government Wharf. Boats in the water at 9:00am and push off (all together) at approximately 9:30am. The crossing will take about 30 minutes and there is a greeting ceremony on the water before we go ashore. We will be there approximately 25 minutes. The return to Campbell River is all timed to the tidal patterns of the Passage.

We look forward to seeing everyone!
