What does Shawnna and every other young woman have in common? The risk of Cervical Cancer. If Shawnna Matsen had anything to share with the world it would be �GET A PAP YEARLY.� Don�t risk your life and the opportunity to have a family.

Imagine the surprise at age 28 being diagnosed with inoperable cervical cancer. It�s been a tough month for friends and family as they struggle to come to grips with Shawnna�s diagnosis. Shawnna�s cervical cancer is inoperable, which means she will undergo an aggressive treatment plan that includes chemo and radiation. Her treatment is expected to go well into the summer months.

The Victoria Cancer Clinic is an amazing place � it�s warm and cheerful, the oncologists, RN�s, and support staff are so helpful. It�s a place of trials and tribulations � and most of all Hope! It would be nice if such a facility could be found in every community, but that�s not the case and so all of Shawnna�s treatments and Dr. appointments are in Victoria. Nanaimo is currently not taking any new chemo patients. She�ll be commuting back and forth from Nanaimo. To add to the stress she has no disability insurance and it�s important that her husband be there to support her. Even after just the first treatment, we can see it taking its toll on Shawnna.

She�s got a long battle ahead of her and so we are doing some fundraising to help cover costs of travel for treatments, accommodations, living expenses, medications (and there are many that are not covered).
