Nov 13 7 9 pm, Nov. 14 and 15 11 8 pm, Nov 16 11 5 pm.

Where would you find an opportunity to buy fine art, as well as goods and services ranging from firewood to fig trees, and from writing to window washing? You’d find it at the Denman Island Memorial Society’s fundraising auction.

The auction is part of the society’s final fundraising efforts to launch the Denman Island Natural Burial Cemetery. It will be Canada’s first stand-alone green cemetery.

To help raise funds for the cemetery, Denman Island residents are donating fine art as well as goods and services for a silent auction that will include two lively community receptions—one to launch the auction on the evening of Thursday, Nov. 13 7 - 9 pm and one to close it on tSunday afternoon 3 - 5 pm.

A diverse range of works has been confirmed so far. These include paintings by Leslie Dunsmore and Dawn Stofer, one of Bentley LeBaron’s iconic raven sculptures, a wool vest by Sudasi Gardner and an art tile compilation by Bronwyn Simons. Gardeners will be excited to see offerings that include heritage fruit trees, composted steer manure, and pruning and gardening services. Those with renovation projects will want to check out the house repair, painting and bobcat services.

These are just a few of the many items and services that will be offered for auction, so be sure to mark Nov. 13 – 16 in your calendar.
