Defeat Depression Walk

On Sunday, May 25th, 2014 the second Annual Defeat Depression Walk will take place in Campbell River. This is part of a national campaign happening in communities across Canada. Our goal is to raise awareness and eliminate the stigma associated with depression, mental illness and suicide. Mental illness is the second cause of disability and impacts virtually every Canadian family. It is estimated that 8% of Canadians will experience a major depression within their lifetimes.
The Campbell River Beacon Club is hosting this event and funds raised will be used to support their work of providing a safe, welcoming and non-judgmental environment where adults with mental illnesses and addictions can spend time with their peers and learn skills to help them on their journey of recovery.
The 4 km walk begins at the Long House in Ostler Park and continues to Sequoia Park (across from the museum) and back again. Registration is at 10 a.m. and the walk begins at 11 a.m. Ocean Mountain Yoga will get us warmed up before the trek.
T-shirts and other items will be available to purchase before and after the walk. There will be a delicious Salmon BBQ after the walk.
Visit defeatdepression.ca to donate, register as a walker, pledge a participant, make a donation, order merchandise and learn more. Teams are encouraged to sign up. Prizes will be given to the teams and individuals who raise the most money, as well as to those who register early on line. Proceeds go to the Campbell River Beacon Club and Mood Disorders Society of Canada.
