7:00 PM to 9:00 PM

The Comox Valley Global Awareness Network and the BC Council for International Cooperation warmly invite you to attend the April 4th candidate meeting: Decent Work For All - Tell Your Next MLA What You Need at 7pm at the K’omoks Band Hall. Not your usual candidate meeting, ‘Decent Work For All’ offers you a chance to tell local candidates what’s important to you about finding and keeping a good job. All Candidates from the Courtenay/Comox and Mid-Island ridings have been invited as ‘Guest Listeners’ and will be offered a short opportunity to speak in response to what they have heard. Your participation is important. With your presence we can provide local leadership related to both the current need for decent work in our community as well as looking forward at creating long term sustainable jobs and economic growth.

The event is sponsored by the Comox Valley Global Awareness Network (bccic.ca/cvgan) as part of the regional network of the British Columbia Council for International Cooperation (bccic.ca). The evening promises to offer engaging and unique insights into the challenges job seekers face today, what forward thinking employers are doing to create sustainable jobs, the future of policy and post secondary education .

In 2015, the Canadian Federal Government signed on to support the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals at home and abroad. So far, the BC Provincial Government has shown limited engagement, even though many of the goals and targets outlined fall under Provincial Jurisdiction, including policies related to employment such as a living wage. The United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goal #8 is to Provide Inclusive and Sustainable Economic Growth, Employment and Decent Work for All. To learn more about Goal # 8, what other countries and governments are doing to act on this and other goals visit: http://www.un.org/sustainabledevelopment/economic-growth/
