Fri, Sep 28th, 8pm (doors 7), MúsicaBrasileira: Amelia Thomas canta Jobim e mais - DANCEy (the translation of that is Amelia Thomas sings Jobim and more). Brazilian Jazz: Bossa Nova, Samba, Choro, and more A night of some of Brazil's best music. From enchanting bossa novas to heart racing sambas, let Amelia and her band sweep you away to Rio right in the heart of Port Alberni. With repertoire from the Antonio Carlos Jobim, Chico Buarque, Jorge Ben, Caetano Veloso, Elis Regina and more – there is sure to be a tune to get everyone moving. Her wonderful band consists of Graham Villette on drums, Adam Dzbik on guitar, and Brock Meades on bass. All are based out of Nanaimo, and this autumn are embarking on a short tour of Vancouver Island to spread their love for Brazilian music. Muito obrigado e diverta-se! Amelia Thomas studied jazz and trumpet at both the prestigious Conservatorium van Amsterdam and Vancouver Island University, where she received her Bachelor of Jazz Studies degree. Somewhere along the way she fell in love with the music of Brazil and wanted to bring this joy to those around her. She has had two incarnations of this band, one here on Vancouver Island, and the second in Iceland, where she spent all of 2017 living and performing. Amelia has also played horn and sang with local island legends La Familia, The Kerplunks, Schmooze Productions, Top Men, Kendall Patrick, The Stacks, John Lee, Ryan Oliver, Roadside Rattle, and more.
