Saturday, February 15th, 2014
February 15 & 16, 2014 | 10:00am to 4:00pm (with lunch breaks)

In 1842, Sir John Herschel, one of the unsung pioneers of photography, discovered that by combining salt and iron (ammonium citrate and potassium ferricyanide) he was able to create a solution that was sensitive to light and could be developed and fixed with water. With its distinctive Prussian Blue colouring, the cyanotype is one of the simplest and most malleable of the early historic processes. It also holds incredible creative potential.

In this two-day workshop, participants will learn the historical applications of the cyanotype process, and how to formulate these to make contemporary images. Participants will be guided through the steps of the process, from coating paper and fabric to toning and finishing, while creating cyanotype images from botanicals and negatives.
