The Comox Valley Art Gallerys Winter 2014 Film Series is set to start this January. Film Series Passes & Tickets are now available in the CVAG Gift Shop, just in time to make an awesome gift for someone (or yourself) this holiday season. The Film Series, an ongoing fundraiser for CVAG, screens films fresh from the Toronto International Film Festival through TIFF - Film Circuit.

Enough Said - Sunday, January 12 at 5:00pm
Director: Nicole Holofcener Cast: James Gandolfini, Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Catherine Keener, Toni Collette Run Time: 1 hr 33 min Year: 2013 Country: USA Language: English Rated: PG-13 Genre: Comedy
Wryly charming, impeccably acted, and ultimately quite bittersweet, Enough Said is a sharp, insightful comedy that humorously explores the mess that often comes with getting involved again. Cast against type, James Gandolfini (Sopranos, Not Fade Away, Where the Wild Things Are) is especially marvellous here, providing a poignant reminder of the loss his premature passing represents.

Wadjda - Sunday, January 26 at 5:00pm
Director: Haifaa Al-Mansour Cast: Waad Mohammed, Reem Abdullah Run Time: 1 hr 38 min
Year: 2013 Country: Saudi Arabia/Germany Language: Arabic with English subtitles Rated: PG Genre: Drama
Saudi Arabias first-ever submission for the Best Foreign Language Film Academy Award, Wadjda - which is not only the countrys first film by a female director, but one of the first features ever shot in Saudi Arabia - is a deceptively simple story about a determined 10-year-old girl who dreams of owning a bicycle (in a society that sees bicycles as dangerous to a girls virtue), and is willing to do just about anything to obtain it.

Inside Llewyn Davis - Sunday, February 9 at 5:00pm
Director: Joel Coen, Ethan Coen Cast: Oscar Isaac, John Goodman, F. Murray Abraham, Carey Mulligan Run Time: 1 hr 45 min Year: 2013 Country: USA Language: English Rated: R Genre: Drama
Winner of the Grand Prix at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival, Inside Llewyn Davis recounts a desolate week in the life of a fictional folk musician in early 1960s New York. Brilliantly written and directed by Joel & Ethan Coen (True Grit, A Serious Man, No Country for Old Men) the film is a humorous, heartfelt, and bittersweet ode to squandered opportunities, thwarted ambition, and unsung genius.

Le Week-End - Sunday, February 23 at 5:00pm
Director: Roger Michell Cast: Jim Broadbent, Lindsay Duncan, Jeff Goldblum Run Time: 1 hr 33 min Year: 2013 Country: UK Language: English Rated: Unrated Genre: Drama/Comedy
By turns sharply comic and deadly serious, Le Week-End is full of surprises. The dialogue has both heart and crackle, delving deep into the tensions that shape this couples 30 year relationship while holding nothing back. Roger Michell has shown us the pleasures of complicated romance before, but never has his filmmaking felt freer. From those charged scenes at the hotel, to Jeff Goldblums delicious intervention, to the clever nod to Jean-Luc Godard at the end, this is one of the most enjoyable stories of the year.

Gloria - Sunday, March 9 at 5:00pm
Director: Sebastin Lelio Cast: Paulina Garca, Sergio Hernandez Run Time: 1 hr 50 min Year: 2013 Country: Chile/Spain Language: Spanish with English subtitles Rated: R Genre: Drama/Comedy
Chiles official Best Foreign Language Film entry for the 2014 Academy Awards, Sebastin Lelios Gloria is one of the most remarkable films of the year. Brilliantly scripted and energized by a keen sense for music, Lelios fourth feature sensitively portrays a woman facing the reality of aging. Paulina Garca, who won a Silver Bear at Berlin for her performance, is breathtaking as Gloria, perfectly transmits the world from the characters unique, often hilarious perspective.

The Lunchbox - Sunday, March 23 at 5:00pm
Director: Ritesh Batra Cast: Irrfan Khan, Nimrat Kaur Run Time: 1 hr 44 min Year: 2013 Country: India Language: Hindi with English subtitles Rated: Unrated Genre: Drama
Irrfan Khan (Life of Pi, Slumdog Millionaire) stars alongside the radiant Nimrat Kaur in Ritesh Batras delightful feature debut, in which a mistaken lunchbox delivery brings together two very different people - a neglected housewife and a grumpy widower on the verge of retirement. The Lunchbox paints a nuanced portrait of life in contemporary Mumbai.
