The Curious Kids Club will continue to explore and investigate the treasures held at the museum. Saturdays from 10 am-12 noon (while the Farmers’ Market is going on at the Native Sons Hall) kids will inspect different aspects of the museum and do some hands-on activities.
$2 for a drop-in or FREE with Family Museum Membership
January 17th, 2015- Weaving Wonder- Students will look at First Nations basketry and weaving. We will discuss the plethora of ways that weaving and basketry are used by Comox Valley’s First Nations.
January 24th, 2015- Chopping into History- The logging industry has played a major role in the development of Vancouver Island. Students will look at the history of logging and tying back to the last lesson they will weave their own tree.
February 14th, 2015- Underneath the Hearts- In this session of Curious Kids Club we will look at the history of Valentine’s day. Students will make there own Valentine day card and weave a Danish heart.
February 21st, 2015- Fruit of the Loom- What is the difference between the clothes we wear today and the clothes the pioneers wore? Students will get to investigate the difference and learn about the process of making cloth. And for the cherry on top they will a chance to make something on their very own homemade loom.
February 28th, 2015- Fruit of the Loom Part 2- Students will continue their projects from the previous week. We will expand on previous lesson by talking about the natural fibres used in the production of some types of clothing then and now. Students done their loom project will work on creating a nature weaving project.
