You can be part of Nanaimo’s first collaborative tile mosaic that will be installed downtown upon completion for all to enjoy. The theme of the mosaic is “Nanaimo – A Creative Community” and will be a compilation of 6 in by 6 in tiles created by the public.
If you don’t feel up to creating your own tile you can be part of making the border that has been designed by local mosaic artist Judy Nielsen. Everything you need to complete your tile will be provided, however the public is encouraged to bring things to use and share such as broken china, jewellery, shells etc.
While you are there you can join in a sing-along led by performers from the Nanaimo Ukulele Festival, taste bannock provided by the Mid-Island Metis Nation or learn how to finger weave, a traditional Metis skill. CHLY 101.7 Radio Malaspina will be providing even more music.
If you would like to stay a little longer, the Hub City Cinema Society will be holding a Film Jam in their space at the Lois Lane Courtyard. At a Film Jam, filmmakers of all kinds and experience come together to conceive and shoot a short film with the resources they have available in only 6 hours.
Hub City Cinema Society invites you to bring any equipment, props, and acting chops that you think can be used to create a short film to the Culture Days Film Jam.
