Well-known Valley vocalist Pat Selman is spearheading a Sunday afternoon series that will feature many of the jazz musicians from the South Island that shes met over the years.
And, as the founder and driving force behind the Jazz Vespers at Sylvan United Church in Mill Bay, she has a lot of musical friends to draw from.
Her Church Mice Productions, and the Youth-and-Mentors-in-Music-and-the-Arts Bursary Fund, have been successfully running that popular series since 2005.
The Belmont Avenue Trio, comprised of musicians from Victoria and Duncan, will be the house band for the opening session, and Selman will sing a few of her favourite tunes with the trio.
And I hope a lot of the musicians in the region will come out, she said. Any time you get a bunch of musicians together, anything can happen.
The venerable hotel, a mainstay of the picturesque seaside village since 1902, was the venue for a long-standing jazz series going back to the 90s.
But the Sunday jams ended almost a decade ago, and since then the hotel has changed hands and undergone an extensive renovation, which included almost doubling the size of the pub and adding a large stage, lighting and sound system.
Since it reopened three years ago, the hotels owner/manager, Tony Van De Mortel, has brought in a variety of entertainment but this will be his first venture into jazz on a regular basis.
A lot of folks here, me included, are really looking forward to this, he said.
