Jump into spring at this 1-day open-air festival of music, dance, and play! The Hub City Bounce Back brings a breath of fresh air to Nanaimo. Feel the creative energy of our city coming back to life after a long winter. Featuring 2 live bands, a parade, a dance cypher, and a silent disco dance at night.  Date/ Time: Saturday, March 19, 3pm-10pmLocation: Maffeo sutton Park Here is a look at how the event will happen: All day zones: 3pm to 8pm 1. Family play zone: “Playbriola” (grassy area)Description: a zone designed for families with fun gamesCOVID precautions: hands off, 2m distanced games only (eg. pool noodle tag). Invitation for families to play together as a team.This is led by David Reid/ Playbriola (Gabriola-based play business) 2. Costume zone (grassy area)Description: A space with fun costumes, for use in the parade and for wearing during the festival.COVID precautions: The space is designed in a way that there is a lot of space to move around and choose clothes. A volunteer is present at all times to assist people and offer hand disinfectant. Clothes will be single use only and returned to a bin. This is led by Shayla Williams. 3. Dance zone (Pavilion)Description: music and dancing all day long.Led by the energetic Michael Geselbracht 4. Eating zone (near basketball courts)Two food trucks allow people to eat healthy, delicious, and diverse food throughout the day, supporting our local vendors.Food vendors: Leroy (Jamaican), Rhianna and Ann (Vietnamese) 3:00pm Opening with elders  3:30pm - 4:15pm Live Music - Band #1 (TBD) 4:45pm - 6:15pm Musical Parade with Band #2 (TBD)A distanced parade inviting all to join for a walk around the park, led by a band that ends on a concert in the grassy area. 6:30pm-7:30pm Dance Cypher Under the pavillon, dancers are invited into the circle to dance one after the other. Local dancers who are coming to the event are invited to participate on a voluntary basis. There is no preselection of dancers, anyone in the audience can participate. 8:00pm-10:00pm Spaced Out: A Silent Disco OdysseyA distanced dance in front of the pavillon. Projections and lighting to create a beautiful atmosphere for the dance.  We are excited to be Celebrating equinox, fun, play, lightness, hope, spirit raising, breath of fresh air, creating connections in our community.
