Creative Writing

This six-week course will fast-track students through the process of writing a new piece of short fiction (or memoir). It will introduce the practice of “free writing,” a technique that has helped many writers overcome fear of the blank page and tap into their own innate writing voice.
Through a series of weekly writing exercises, students learn how to construct character, write scenes, shape plot, and evoke theme and mood by using sensory and vivid language. Students will come away from this course with a first draft well under way and the ability to "read as a writer," a skill that will guide your writing now and for decades to come.
This course is suitable for beginners or anyone who is looking to get back into writing after a break. Creative writing is one of the most fulfilling ways to express yourself, and you’re never too young or too old to give it a try.
