In 1968 Australia, four musically talented Aboriginal women � Gail, Julie, Cynthia, and Kay � form the soul-singing girl groupThe Sapphires under the tutelage of alcoholic, Irish talent scout Dave Lovelace. Though the women face racial prejudice, they are sure they are destined for fame. Dave gets them a job entertaining the US troops in Vietnam and, despite the danger, they head out to the war zone.
The film is loosely based on a true story that was originally written as a play by the same title.
