Cowichan Valley Clean Up (Pre-registration is required)

Over two days in October, volunteers will be out removing illegally dumped garbage from your beautiful Cowichan Valley. The group will be meeting at the base of Mount Prevost on October 26th at 9 am to set out and remove illegally dumped debris from the mountain. They will then meet again on October 27th at 9 am in the parking lot of Adams/Serious Coffee (Boys Road at the Trans Canada Highway) to set out and clean along the Cowichan River banks below the Silver Bridge (near McAdam Park). Look for our sign-up tent and signage. Anyone wishing to join the clean up effort is welcome! There is a bit of paperwork to fill out prior to the event. Everyone working on Mt. Prevost must sign a waiver from the Municipality of North Cowichan, a Cowichan Green Community volunteer form must be completed on the day of the event and if you intend to use your own vehicle to help haul debris to Bing’s Creek, you must pre-register your plate number to avoid having to pay tipping (dump) fees. All Seasons Services and Hudson Proctor Contracting will be donating their time and hauling equipment (Dump trucks) to help us get the debris to Bing’s. Your hard work will be rewarded each day by a hot soup from Gibby’s at VIU and other lunch goodies. You do NOT have to attend a full day nor do you have to attend both sites. Any effort is greatly appreciated to keep our valley free of litter and get it off the banks of the Cowichan before it is swept downstream when the river rises. We will be attending the sign in tent all day both days so if you can’t make it right at 9 am, that’s ok too! Dress for the weather and wear sturdy shoes/boots. If you have these and are willing to bring them, please do: A wheel barrow, tongs for picking up litter, tarps to line your truck bed, heavy gloves, five gallon buckets to collect litter in and a drink to keep you hydrated. Cleaning supplies will be provided at site. If you wish to participate, please send an email to [email protected] requesting a waiver and information package. If you wish to register your vehicle license plate with Bing’s Creek (CVRD) you can send your name and license plate number to the above email address and we will register your vehicle for free tipping.
