B.C.’s largest bluegrass and old-time music festival comes to the Victoria Event Centre for a special preview and launch party Monday, June 13 with Toronto folk/bluegrass powerhouse band The Barrel Boys.
The rising acoustic music stars are one of the headliners at this year’s Cowichan Valley Bluegrass Festival, June 17-19 at Laketown Ranch Music Park at Lake Cowichan.
“Take some bluegrass, classic country, Appalachian old-time music and Americana, put it in a high-speed blender and out comes this unique cocktail of Barrel Boys music that is fresh yet respectful of tradition,” says festival artistic director Bob Remington. “We think they are a perfect fit for the unique West Coast bluegrass vibe we create at the festival.”
Playing around one microphone in the classic bluegrass style are Nathan Smith (fiddle), Rob McLaren (banjo), Ben Wright (guitar), Kyle Kirkpatrick (dobro), and Tim O’Reilly (bass).
Doors at the Victoria Event Centre launch party open 7 p.m. with show from 8 to 10. Door prizes include t-shirts and a weekend festival pass valued at $125. The band will also have some surprise musical guests!
