HEDDA GABLER

by Henrik Ibsen

Adapted by Judith Thompson

April 5-13 2019, Sid Williams Theatre

“I am not like other women…don’t you understand?”

Newlywed Hedda Gabler has everything – a beautiful house, an adoring husband, a baby on the way – and wants none of it. When a former lover comes to town, she seizes the chance to change her life, but events quickly flow out of her control and lead toward a shocking climax.

At the core of this drama is the complex and contradictory character of Hedda. Referred to as the ‘female Hamlet’, the role has been played by many famous actors; Eleonora Duse, Ingrid Bergman and Cate Blanchett amongst others.

Hedda Gabler has been performed worldwide since its premiere in 1891. CLT presents Canadian playwright (and Governor General Award winner) Judith Thompson’s visceral andco ntemporary 2017 adaptation. Director Catherine Hannon sets Ibsen’s masterpiece in1963, in Vancouver.

Come out and see an exciting new take on this classic of 19th century drama!
