"Kadoski is a confident performer who has created a well-polished cultural addition to Vancouver Island's heritage." Amy Smart – Times Colonist "Her musical ode to Cougar Annie is a treat to behold" - John Threlfall - CVV magazine “It’s great to see our unique B.C. history being kept alive in so appealing a fashion.” —Robert Moyes - Monday Magazine California-born Ada Annie Jordan settled in the Clayoquot coastal rainforest in 1915 with her first husband and three young children. A five-acre garden that she carved out of the wilderness provided food and income throughout her long life. The bounty on cougars supplemented her income and she earned her moniker of Cougar Annie by shooting over 70 of the animals. Annie gave birth to eight more children in this remote location, and in fact rarely left the property until old age and blindness forced her removal to Port Alberni, where she died just shy of 97. Katrina spent close to three years at Cougar Annie’s garden and immersing herself in the folklore surrounding the legendary pioneer-settler. Now her award winning, critically acclaimed one-woman show has been touring around B.C. In working to portray this wild-west woman Katrina drew upon many sources. Dozens of B.C. history books were referenced, including; Margaret Horsfields “Cougar Annie’s Garden” and “Voices of the Sound”. Interviewed were members of Ada Annie’s family, foresters, fisherman, band members of the Hesquiaht Nation, archeologists, and adventurers that made to this remote location
. COUGAR ANNIE TALES uses dramatic narrative, images, letters, and original compositions to celebrate the unconventional life of one of BC’s most colourful local characters. The Edgedwellers are a new collaboration between singer-songwriters Katrina Kadoski and Peter Wahl. They have been crafting their ethereal folk-rock sound, merging original tunes and creating new works for the project. They will play an opening set of music. www.katrinakadoski.com
