Impressionism and Post-Impressionism are once again making headlines in the art world with fascinating new exhibitions and scholarship. This year's exciting lecture series explores how the influences of other cultures, such Japan, Africa, Oceania, and the Americas contributed to the Impressionist and Post-Impressionist movements in France and elsewhere:
MARCH 6 Dr. Melissa Berry, University of Victoria, will talk about Impressionists and Japonisme: Early International Influences. Listen to a sneak preview
MARCH 13 National Gallery Senior Curator Katerina Atanassova will talk about Breaking Boundaries: Canadian Women Impressionists Abroad and at Home. (Step inside the National Gallery's internationally acclaimed exhibition)
MARCH 20 Dr. Rachel Boate, University of British Columbia will talk about American Impressionism: What is It?
MARCH 27 Dr. Daniel Mato, Professor Emeritus, University of Calgary will talk about African and Oceanic Traditional Arts: Contributions to Post-Impressionism.
All lectures will be presented online via Zoom with recordings available to ticket holders for a limited time.
