Darrel and Saskia, the Great Plains

Are; two veteran musician/songwriter/performers who have joined forces to create a dazzling musical partnership that is wowing audiences young and old wherever they play. Coming together from widely diverse backgrounds, geographics, and musical tastes, they gave birth to a new adage "Music conquers All ".

Darrel Delaronde was born in the northern forests of Saskatchewan, Canada , son of a farmer and sawmiller and grew up into hard labor in a harsh climate . Saskia was born in Holland and immigrated with her family to Dawson Creek, British Columbia. Darrel began his musical journey on the rough wood stages of small country halls, playing guitar in any band that would have him; from old-time fiddle to rock and roll. He played in rock bands all through high school, but after moving to British Columbia, was caught up in the country-rock craze of the early seventies. Saskia believes her music is best described as an effort to reconcile her experience as an immigrant coming from the rich historical mosaic that is Europe with the exuberant vitality of Canada's north country. She sang her way into the hearts of many thus honing her vocal skills into the strong, vibrant instrument that it is today

These two found themselves crossing paths more and more, so one day they decided to collaborate on some musical projects. While it took a while for the gears to mesh, they soon realized that together they had a unique style that spoke to the hearts and souls of everyone and The Great Plains emerged.

Today you can expect a heart-warming show filled with music, merriment, and mayhem as Saskia and Darrel deliver a fun blend of music, an unpredictable series of songs that change every time you see them. They delight their audience with tales about Prairie Elevator, War brides, Patchwork quilts, and history makers such as Louis Riel, Gabriel Dumont and David Thompson. They weave beautiful insightful songs about their own journey throughout the show and sing in Gaelic, Dutch, German or French.

A tapestry of sound that encompassed many genres, wrapped up in a high-energy performance that shoots sparks across the stage for all to see. Saskia's rich dynamic voice coupled with Darrel's outrageous guitar antics, punch out a rare passion. They give off an energy you can taste in the back of your throat, like ozone from a thunder storm.
