Fri, Dec 2nd, 8-10pm, Concert – The Monik Nordine Trio – Jazz saxophone The Monik Nordine Trio is a new trio from Victoria, BC with Brent Jarvis on piano and keyboards, Bruce Meikle on bass and Monik Nordine on saxophones and vocals. The group performs chamber jazz at its finest, with reworkings of standards from the Great American Songbook and new compositions by Monik.
The trio is preparing for a new recording at the end of the year in order to bring this music to a greater audience. So for those of you looking for an intimate musical adventure this group will draw you into their sphere and deliver you to jazz heaven. Monik Nordine teaches saxophone and jazz courses at the Victoria Conservatory of Music Post-Secondary Program and she also taught for 6 years at Vancouver Island University. She founded the Victoria Jazz Orchestra and now assists saxophonist Andrew Greenwood with the band, performing regularly at Hermann's Jazz Club in Victoria, BC. Monik has performed with Hugh Fraser and VEJI, Pat Coleman, Bob Murphy, Rob McConnell, Tommy Banks, Guido Basso, Michael Buble, and the Victoria Symphony Orchestra among others, and holds a Master of Music Degree from McGill University and a Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of British Columbia.
