Recent events around the world and here in B.C. have given rise to divisive political, religious and racial rhetoric. It is imperative to open up lines of communication. Meaningful and thoughtful dialogue is grounded in a repertoire of skills.
The Compassionate Listening Project teaches these powerful skills for peacemaking in our families, communities, on the job, and in peace or social justice work both locally and globally. It shows us how to reach through layers of defensiveness and reactivity to our essential core. From there, we can shift relationships into heart-to-heart interaction. The capacity to listen to 'the other' is a foundational skill for creating and sustaining healthy relationships, resolving conflict, and helping usher in a world where the loving essence of every human being can thrive.
Naomi Wolfe has been facilitating Compassionate Listening workshops in Canada and internationally, including at past SIETAR (Society for Intercultural Education Training and Research) events, since 2007. She teaches full-time at North Island College, where she works with and advocates for adult immigrant, refugee and international students. Naomi is grateful to live and work on unceded traditional K'ómoks First Nation territory on Vancouver Island.
