The Comox Valley Montessori Society is hosting an information night for children in grades kindergarten to seven.

 Join us for an evening of introduction to the Comox Valley’s Montessori Program. Students, parents, teachers, administration and CVMS Board Members will be available in the classrooms to answer any questions regarding Vancouver Island’s first public Montessori Program.

The Comox Valley Montessori Program is a first-class educational method offered by School District 71 to all enrolled children regardless of their socio-economic background. Unlike some Montessori programs, the program at Queneesh is not a private school and is funded by SD71. The program runs from kindergarten to grade seven and is located within a public school where all classrooms have the opportunity to work together.

Montessori is a philosophy and method of education that was developed over 100 years ago by Nobel Peace Prize nominee, Dr. Maria Montessori. The method emphasizes the potential of the child and develops this potential by utilizing specially trained teachers and specialized teaching materials. Montessori recognizes that children have a natural curiosity and desire to learn; the Montessori materials help children to understand what they learn by associating an abstract concept with a concrete sensorial experience.  In this manner, the Montessori child is actually learning through all five senses to complete the BC Curriculum.

There are a number of school districts in BC that offer Montessori classes in the public system; SD71 is the first on Vancouver Island.  In all these cases, four-way collaboration is required among the school district, the teachers, the school administrators, and the parent group that supports the program.
