The reggae and ska community knows no borders, and if any band is a testament to that, it’s Colombia’s De Bruces a Mi. Formed in Medellin, Colombia by Mauricio Osario and Ronald Rico in 1999, De Bruces a Mi began as a group of friends looking to involve themselves and grow within the reggae music and culture they loved.
Taking inspiration from legends like Bob Marley & The Wailers and The Skatalites to Colombian favourites like Tota la Momposina and Petrona Martinez, De Bruces a Mi specializes in an eclectic mix of ska and reggae with salsa, calypso, and the champeta, a musical style native to their region of coastal Caribbean Colombia. They are the fourth Colombian reggae/ska band in five years to be presented locally by Nanaimo Reggae Massive, a grassroots reggae and international music community and promotions project.
Local DJ Rebel Selector will compliment the night before, between, and after the live sets with his unique mix of reggae, hip hop, and Latin music from around the world.
