COLIN TILNEY, born in London and now a Canadian citizen, is internationally known for his many solo and continuo recordings on harpsichord, clavichord and fortepiano for Deutsche Grammophon (Archive), Decca, Hyperion, Dorian, Music & Arts and CBC, many on original instruments.
His interest also extends to contemporary music: in 1985, with Elissa Poole, he founded the chamber group, Les Coucous Bénévoles, to play both Bach and modern Canadian works. Living in Victoria since 2002, he teaches performance practice at the University of Victoria and is the resident harpsichordist of the Victoria Symphony. He is the author of The Art of the Unmeasured Prelude (Schott, London, 1991).
