Clayoquot Wild Weekend. Friends of Clayoquot Sound presents a Panel Discussion & Social Evening. On the 20th anniversary of "Clayoquot Summer '93," the panelists, all key players in 1993, discuss the events of that time, the political repercussions of those events and their relevance to today.
Panelists are: Elizabeth May, leader of the Green Party of Canada and MP for Saanich-Gulf Islands and organizer in 1993 of "The Clayoquot Express," a train that brought supporters from across the country to Clayoquot Sound; John Cashore, former Environment Minister during the NDP government in 1993; Karen Mahon, Greenpeace Canada's forest campaigner in 1993 and now director of Public Outreach; Valerie Langer, former forest campaigner of Friends of Clayoquot Sound and now with Forest Ethics; Terry L. Brown, an arrestee in the Clayoquot blockades in 1993, and now a filmmaker known as "The Amphibiographer" for his aquatic videography; Tzeporah Berman, Friends of Clayoquot Sound blockade coordinator in 1993, and currently in demand as a strategic advisor for environmental and First Nations organizations; and Maureen Fraser, long time resident and business owner of the Common Loaf Bakeshop in Tofino and always active in environmental and politics in Clayoquot Sound.
The panel discussion will be moderated by Josie Osborne, and followed by snacks and beverages in a social gathering open to all.
