Hermann's Jazz Club presents Brent Jarvis and Monik Nordine on December 16.
Monik Nordine teaches saxophone, jazz combo and ear training through the Camosun College Professional School at the Victoria Conservatory of Music and taught saxophone for 6 years at Vancouver Island University. She co-directs the Victoria Jazz Orchestra with Bruce Hurn, performing monthly at Hermann's Jazz Bar in Victoria, BC. Monik has performed with Rob McConnell, Guido Basso, Michael Buble, the Victoria Symphony Orchestra among others, and holds a Master of Music Degree from McGill University and a Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of British Columbia.
Brent Jarvis is a Canadian jazz pianist and producer living in Victoria BC. Formally trained at the University of Toronto Brent has gone on to perform across Canada and the US. Brent has released four albums. His debut "Sequences" on Roadhouse records was named best jazz album of 2005 by CJAM FM in Windsor / Detroit and was followed up by "Solo Piano" also on roadhouse. Two independent releases have followed. "Daedalus - Poetry by Dorothy Livesay" featuring all original music and creating a new variety of standard song with words by the late Canadian poet Dorothy Livesay. "This One" released in 2012 combines fresh approaches to modern jazz music, is made up of primarily original material, and makes use of the modern potential of the recorded medium.
