CHLYs 2010 Spring Fundrive Walkathon and Wrap Up Party

For the week of Sunday, April 25 to Saturday, May 1, Radio Malaspina, 101.7 FM CHLY is hosting its on-air 2010 Spring Fund Drive.

CHLY is a non-profit community-university radio station based out of downtown Nanaimo which broadcasts to central Vancouver Island, the Gulf Islands, the Sunshine Coast, Vancouver, and the northern tip of Washington State.

During the drive, Miles Howe, a local musician and CHLY volunteer will be doing a walkathon in support of the station. Howe will be walking from Lund to Salt Spring Island via Cumberland, Chemainius and other island communities. Howe will be joined by other local and Canadian musicians along the way, including Cameron Twyford, Puzzle Root, and Jah Cutta. All proceeds raised during the tour will go toward the operational costs of CHLY. Howe welcomes anyone who supports independent media to join him on his tour.

Here are the stops and events planned for Howe�s walkathon:

Thursday, April 22, 6:30 pm in Lund at The Lund Community Centre: "Susuki Speaks" is being screened at 7:00 pm, followed by a musical performance featuring Cameron Twyford. Admission is by donation.

Friday, April 23, 7:00 pm in Powell River at La Casita's Mexican Restaurant : A musical performance featuring Cameron Twyford. Admission is by donation.

Saturday, April 24, 10:00 pm in Cumberland at The Waverly Hotel: A musical performance featuring Jah Cutta and East Wave Radio. Admission is $10.00 at door.

Monday, April 26, 7:00 pm in Parksville at The Youth Arts Market: A musical performance featuring multiple young artists from the area.

Wednesday, April 28, 7:00 pm in Chemainus at The Dancing Bean Cafe: A musical performance featuring Puzzle Root. Admission is by donation.

Thursday, April 29, 7:00 pm in Cowichan at Puzzleroot's place (3768 Rosedale Ridge): A musical performance featuring Puzzle Root. Admission is by donation.

Friday, April 30, 8:00 pm on Salt Spring Island at Moby's Marine Pub: A musical performance by Miles Howe. Admission is by donation.

After the fund drive and walkathon come to an end, there will be a wrap up party in support of CHLY hosted by Neferiu records, featuring Mantra Kid, Ricca Razor Sharp, EquAzn, Sandeep The Soul Survivor, and Dave O�Rama. The show will be at The Cambie on Victoria Rd in downtown Nanaimo on Sunday, May 2 at 9:00 pm. Admission is $5.00 and everyone is welcome.
