The notion of the Void has been part of the human experience since the beginning of time. Many Creation myths tell of the Void as the 'before' of what is known and reflection on the end of life takes us to the Void as the 'after' of life as we know it. The Void is usually associated with silence, emptiness, and darkness and/or with loneliness, nothingness, and meaninglessness. In this lecture we will explore ur experience of the Void primarily as a necessary and natural part of our individuation journey. The Void is an integral part of any process of transformation, particularly in midlife. We will also touch on the Void as experienced by the mystics in the Dark Night of the Soul--becoming one with the All, the Divine,: an experience of No-Thing which is also Everything.
The Saturday workshop (limited to 12 people) on "The Void" : we will explore our experience of the Vois in more depth through viewing and discussing the film: "Touching the Void", through journal writing and through reflection on a fairytale. Please bring paper and pen.
Mae Stolte is a Jungian Analyst in practice in Calgary. She completed her Diploma in Analytical Psychology at the CG Jung Institute, Zurich in 1990 and has given many lectures, seminars, and workshops on the inner journey as reflected in myth, fairy tale and film as well as in our everyday experience.
