10:00 AM to 5:00 PM

From Nanaimo to the Comox Valley, 47 talented artisans and artists will open their studios to the public for a weekend of exploration, discovery and experience of the creative process.

This newly created Spring Studio Tour is a follow up to the very successful first annual winter studio tour that took place this past winter. The feedback we received was so positive we decided that holding a tour in the Spring would be a terrific way to give people an even greater opportunity to share in the creative process, said Bill Basaraba, spokesperson for the group.

In addition, continued Basaraba, while patrons might be used to seeing the works of our many talented creative people in the shops and galleries, they rarely have the opportunity to experience the places where these fantastic creations are made. Our tour gives them the chance to get up close and personal and learn more about the process that goes into creating each piece.

The self-guided tour features potters, jewellers, glassworkers, wood turners, stone carvers, painters, sculptors, fabric artist to name just a few of the types of art forms that will be on display.

The complete list of participants, with links to their websites or email addresses, as well as downloadable studio tour guide maps are available from the studio tours website In addition printed versions will be available at all participating studios as well as at various community resource centers.

Studio Tour signs will also be posted along streets and highways to help point tour participants in the right direction. There is no cost to take the tour.

The Studio Tour places emphasis on the high level of creativity, quality and professionalism of some of the Central Islands premier artisans and artists. The Island has become a magnet for many creative people, says Basaraba. The Studio Tour provides a showcase for them as well as helping to make the Central Island area a tourism destination of note for the arts. It also allows patrons the opportunity to purchase works directly from the individual who created it.

This studio tour is destined to become one of those must do Spring activities. Find out more by visiting the Studio Tour website mentioned above or on FaceBook at Youll like what you see.
