Latin Grammy Award winner Alex Cuba will headline the Sounds of BC main stage at this summers Celebrate BC Day in the provincial Capital. The Cuban Canadian singer-songwriter brings an energetic performance with songs in both Spanish and English.

Earlier in the afternoon, Juno-nominated Bobs & Lolo will delight youngsters with their energetic musical acts seen on Treehouse TV and which are guaranteed to get the audience clapping, snapping and tapping.

Celebrate BC Day features free, family-friendly entertainment and activities at the picturesque St. Anns Academy National Historic Site on Humboldt Street in Victoria on BC Day, Monday, Aug. 4 from noon to 9 pm.

Other musicians set to take the stage include Vancouver-based Shane Philip with his didgeridoo, drum and guitar. Victoria performers include synthy Isobel Trigger, magician Jason Verners, the Le-La-La Dancers sharing Kwakwakawakw traditional songs, and the rock n roll dance band Rukus.

The 2014 event is presented by the Province of British Columbia. Showcasing the provinces incredible spirit through its music, food, film and photography is a wonderful way to celebrate our diverse cultures, rich history and varied geographical regions, said Coralee Oakes, Minister of Community, Sport and Cultural Development.

Amateur and professional photographers have until July 11 to submit their favorite BC-themed pictures to the Capture BC exhibit. Submissions to Through the BC Lens, which will feature short films covering a wide range of topics at the forefront of BCs cultural and social landscape, will also be received until July 11.
