8:00 PM to 10:00 PM

Two Vancouver Island musicians will be performing in Sooke on behalf of abandoned animals. The concert will be held on May 3rd at the Holy Trinity Anglican Church on Murray Road. All the proceeds from the event will go to the Sooke Animal Food and Rescue Society (SAFARS).

SAFARS is a charity group specializing in the rehabilitation of feral and stray cats. This hardworking Society, comprised exclusively of volunteers, has also created an animal food bank in Sooke, one in the Beecher Bay First Nations Reserve and one in Our Place Society in Victoria to help prevent the abandonment of animals.

The plight of abandoned and feral cats along the west side of Vancouver Island struck a chord with these two musicians. Dave Gallant and Taylor Caspersen volunteered to head up the concert night, with Dave Gallant and Friends, The Taylor Caspersen Project and other special guest performers.

Dave Gallant has been on the Island music scene for over 40 years. His eclectic repertoire includes influences from Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, the Everly Brothers, The Beatles and Bob Dylan. He has worked with countless musicians and for many years has been president of the Sooke Folk Music Society. www.sookefolkmusicsociety.com

The Taylor Caspersen Project is headed by Taylor Caspersen, a young, charismatic Sooke musician and performer. Taylor started his journey with music when he was only four by raising money for young leukemia patients. Taylor also performed at the Farmers Daughter open stage shows, with host Dave Gallant. Taylor has worked with many local Sooke musicians and has been inspired by Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne (Electric Light Orchestra), Chuck Berry and groups like 'CCR', 'The Band' and 'The Grateful Dead'. The band's music tastes includes blues, classic rock, glimpses of progressive rock and folk-rock with heavy acoustic undertones.

We want to thank Jackie Lamoureux for the original concept and for organizing this wonderful event. We could not have done it without her and her passion for the animals and music says SAFARS President, Margarita Dominguez.

All proceeds from the concert go towards buying land and building a shelter for cats, dogs and other small animals.

The concert will be held at Holy Trinity Anglican Church at 1962 Murray Road, near Sooke's town centre. Doors open 7:30 pm and show time is 8 pm. Tickets are available at Shopper's Drug Mart (Sooke), People's Drug Mart (Sooke), and The Stick in the Mud Coffee House. Tickets are $15 at select retailers or $18 at the door.
