Carmanah performs at the Cobblestone Pub on March 21.
The musicians of Carmanah named the band in honour of the Carmanah Valley, an ancient rainforest on Vancouver Island. We have gratitude for the people who fought to keep the valley safe from deforestation in 1988. Through protesting and raising public awareness, passionate Canadians, including First Nations Peoples and the Western Canada Wilderness Committee, were awarded with the creation of the Carmanah Pacific Provincial Park, home to the biggest Sitka Spruces in the world.
The band, Carmanah, is proud to embrace the energy of the beautiful west-coast of Canada. They have captivated audiences of all ages and musical preferences with a sound that incorporates folk, funk, rock, roots and reggae. Abounding with musical energy, original writing and dedication, Carmanah is excited to be growing into the Canadian music scene.
Carmanah opened for Ziggy Marley in 2013, and has played at a variety of music festivals including Rifflandia Music Festival in Victoria, BC, and Canadian Music Week in Toronto, ON. They have shared the stage with bands including Current Swell, Said the Whale, Wake Owl, Jon & Roy and the Boom Booms. www.carmanahband.ca/the-band/read-more
