This is a one day course that runs on Saturday, March 19, 2016. Class starts at 8:30am and concludes after the exam and review at 4:30pm. Students are expected to know the phonetic alphabet and to have studied the course materials prior to the class.

The purpose of the course is to provide you training on emergency radio procedures along with everyday operating techniques and hands on use of the Marine VHF Radio. With a passing mark, you will be issued your Restricted Operator's Certificate (Maritime) including a DSC endorsement to take with you. The ROC(M) card is a Canadian Federal Government issued card allowing you to operate a marine VHF radio. This is now a legal requirement for anyone operating a marine VHF radio and there are penalties for those operating a radio without your license card. If you received your ROC(M) card before the new Digital Selective Calling (DSC) was introduced, then you are encouraged to return and get your DSC endorsement for your ROC card by attending this short course.

DSC or digital selective calling is a feature on all new VHF radios that enhances the ability of rescue personnel to locate you and provide assistance in an emergency.  It is important to understand this technology and to know how to use it.
