Canadian Cancer Society Relay for Life: Nanaimo

The Canadian Cancer Society Relay for Life is an annual Nanaimo fundraiser which proceeds go towards cancer research, prevention assisting people living with cancer throughout Canada, and much more. Nanaimo has a volunteer run Canadian Cancer Society office at 777E Poplar St, which provides both local and out of town rides to Victoria for people in cancer treatment, in partnership with the Masons for out of town drives, as well as group meeting for Breast cancer and Prostate cancer survivors, a wig room where a volunteer hairdresser fits wigs on cancer patients in need, makeup and support classes, pamphlets, books, and visual aids on cancer, financial support for those living with cancer who are in need, a buddy system where people diagnosed with cancer are teamed with a person who has gone through the same thing in the past, and can lend support and empirical knowledge, and more. None of which would be possible without events like the Relay for Life. Its easy to get involved with the Relay, you simply register online at Canadian Cancer Society.ca, and follow the links through Relay for life to Nanaimo, or visit our office to register. Teams then take turns overnight at the Rotary Bowl track in Nanaimo either running, walking, or being pushed around the track. Food and entertainment is provided, as well as support, remembrance, and fight back components throughout the night. All people living with cancer, their caregivers, friends,
Co-workers and people willing to join a team are invited. Don�t have a team but want to participate, simply go to Canadian Cancer Society.ca and join a team already registered that is looking for more members. It is a great event and all are welcome.
