Canada Music Week | November 21 – 27 Canada Music Week features four fantastic free concerts!
Anna Cal & Roger Buksa – Dueling Pianos Monday, November 21st – 7:30pm (Alix Goolden Performance Hall) Piano Duo Anna Cal and Roger Buksa (with guest soprano Kathryn Whitney) perform a program including works by Rachmaninoff and Gershwin. Camille Saint-Saens, Variations on a Theme of Beethoven, Op.35v Stephen Chatman , vocal cycle “ You Are Happy” on the text by Margaret Attwood Franz Liszt, Concerto Pathetique Sergey Rahmaninov, “ Barcarolle” and “The night of Love” from the first suite for two pianos No1, Op.5 George Gershwin, “Porgy & Bess” Fantasy arranged by Percy Grainger.
Canadian Music Concert played by VCM Students and Faculty Friday, November 25th – 7:30pm (Robin and Winifred Wood Hall) VCM Students perform a selection of Canadian Works! On Friday night we will have two concurrent 7:30pm concerts! · Hosted by Frances Perriam in Room 303 we will have student performers up to age 15 playing a wide variety of Canadian repertoire from preliminary to ARCT level.
At the same time, in Wood Hall we will have the more senior student and faculty players hosted by Stephen Brown. This concert will include a premiere played by a voice/cello & piano trio, two pieces played by their composers and a wind trio.
VCM Faculty playing Canadian Music – curated by Cathy Fern Lewis Saturday, November 26th – 1:00pm (Robin and Winifred Wood Hall) Saturday afternoon at 1:00 there will be a Faculty Concert in Wood Hall curated and hosted by Cathy Fern Lewis. This concert will feature VCM faculty playing Canadian repertoire on piano, lute, voice and flute. Repertoire will vary from VCM faculty composers to Oscar Peterson.
Country Music Celebration Sunday, November 27th – 2:30pm (Alix Goolden Performance Hall) Country Music Celebration is an interactive family concert led by Daniel Lapp, Artistic Director of VCM’s School of Contemporary Music, featuring Canadian Western to Texas Swing music; part of the Island Savings Free Family Concert Series. This concert will feature: 1. Genevieve and the Wild Sundays 2. Four Chords of Wood 3. Daniel Lapp & Folkestra
