Can you prove it? Producing the evidence. Presented by Pat Acton. Your family has an oral tradition that great aunt Susie once was a servant in Lord Tophat's mansion. Your cousin never tells tales, so the story must be true. Musn't it?
This workshop will illustrate how to use critical thinking skills to evaluate information gathered for your family history inlcuding: what is the difference between a fact, a deduction and an assumption? Why is this important to recognize?; what is the standard scientific procedure and how can it be used in family history?; what is the Genealogical Proof Standard? Can it help separate fact from fiction?; What is the difference between primary, secondary, tertiary and circumstantial evidence?; How can problem solving become part of the research process?
