Campbell River Museum Lecture Series: Historian Jim McDowell
add to outlook add to google calendar remind me
Veteran freelance historian Jim McDowell, author of Father August Brabant: Saviour or Scourge, will be discussing the impact of controversial priest Father Braban, the father of Vancouver Islands first large residential school. Although he lived and worked among aboriginal people on the west coast of Vancouver Island for 33 years, Brabant never tired from trying to save the indigenous people from being themselves, and striving to instill in them alien spiritual beliefs. Brabant precipitated the single institution that proved most destructive to the very people he set out to rescue. His biography will be of interest to historians, anthropologists, political scientists, individuals engaged in First Nations Studies, and general readers.
