Fair Trade Global Craft Fair Returns to Campbell on December 6th
This Christmas season, while crossing off items on your Christmas shopping list, how would you like to support education for women and children in Afghanistan? Or maybe you want to help kids attend school in Nepal? How about improving the lives of families in Guatemala? You can do all this and more without even leaving Campbell River!
If you want to purchase items that will be appreciated, are a little bit different and won’t be forgotten about when the holiday season is over why not consider coming to the Fair Trade Global Market? This festive event will be held in the Timberline Secondary School gym on Saturday, December 6th from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. Enjoy shopping for unique and beautiful items while supporting fair trade initiatives from around the world.
This is the seventh year the Market has been held at Timberline – the event has been well attended and each year it grows in popularity. Vendors who have attended in past years have been thrilled with the wonderful support they have received for their products and services from the people of Campbell River.
This year, over 25 vendors will be be participating. They will be selling products from many different countries. The ever popular Ten Thousand Villages store from Victoria will be at the Fair again this year and they will have an assortment of unique Christmas ornaments, amazing musical instruments, carvings and fair trade food items, as well as story books, cookbooks, jewelry and scarves. The Gathering Place, a Cortes based fair trade business, will have a great variety of sea salt, spices and organic herbal teas. Innovative Communities will be selling bags, blankets and other unique items from Nepal in support of their work in the village of Lachachowk. Canadian Women for Afghanistan, an organization that supports advancing education for Afghan women and their families will have pashminas and jewelry for sale. Aldea Maya, based in Guatemala, will provide great gift alternatives for those hard-to-buy for people on your list.
Our C. R. Grandmothers to Grandmother group (in support of the Stephen Lewis Foundation) will be at the Market again this year. They will be selling a variety of items including delectable baked goods, “It’s a Wrap” reusable sandwich wrappers, wonderful beaded bags and centerpieces made from seasonal greenery.
Young people from Timberline’s Outdoor Club will be helping throughout the day. They will also assist with set up and will help with the clean up when the Fair is over.
Timberline students will prepare delicious goodies and proceeds from this will support school programs. Take a break from shopping and enjoy some delectable treats along with a hot cup of fair trade coffee or tea.
Come and enjoy the festive atmosphere while checking out the great selection of unique, beautiful and meaningful gifts. Remember, fair trade is better than aid so come out and shop on December 6th for gifts that give twice! For further information, please call Brenda at 250-287-8198.
