Campbell River Arts Council Writing Workshop
add to outlook add to google calendar remind me
This is an opportunity to brush up on your writing skills through focussed discussion and writing exercises in class. Youll meet other writers and hear about the challenges they face and their solutions; and youll engage in peer writing feedback in each session. The format for the latter will alternate between reading aloud in small groups in some sessions, followed by others in which youll give and get a more detailed written response to work circulated between sessions. Participants will gain confidence in their writing skills; and get a sense of reader response.
The program is designed to help those in process with writing, who want a tune up in some of the key areas of writing craft and some feedback on their work.
You should be prepared to do some writing between classes and to give time to thoughtful written reviews of work submitted by others within groups of four to six people.

Five Bi-monthly Sessions
Campbell River Arts Council, Sybil Andrews Cottage in Willow Point
Instructors:
Jeanette Taylor, historian/writer/instructor, with four books in print, including River City; Tidal Passages; The Quadra Story; and Exploring Quadra Island.
Annette Yourk, editor/writer/instructor, with fiction and nonfiction essays, articles and anthologies in print.
The instructors offer a range of writing support services through their newly formed collective: The Scribes, Comprehensive Writing Services. They assist writers (and non-‐writers!) to create publications theyre proud of, through classes, one-‐on-‐one coaching, editing and book design. See their website: www.thescribes.ca for details; and follow their Blog: A Writers Study http://thescribes.ca/blog/for insights into nonfiction writing and local history.
Jeanette and Annette teach nonfiction writing courses and workshops throughout the Campbell River region, including a class running concurrently to this one at the Museum at Campbell River. (See http://www.crmuseum.ca/ or http://thescribes.ca/classes-‐workshops-‐talks/events-‐calendar/ for details).
Both instructors will attend the first session; after which theyll each lead alternate sessions to give participants a range of expertise.
