30 September 1938: New Light on Appeasement and the Munich Conference
Dr Brian McKercher
Department of History,University of Victoria
Appeasement has had a bad reputation since the Munich pact of September 1938, when British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain conceded to Hitler's invasion of part of Czechoslovakia and subsequently announced that he had secured "peace in our time." Join Dr Brian McKercher for a rethinking of appeasement as a foreign policy concept in modern British history and Chamberlain's response to the threat of fascism.
