Monday, April 14th, 2014
Doors open at 5:45pm. Lecture begins at 6:30pm.

Cafe Scientifique presents Dr. Adam Monahan from the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences at UVic. He will speak on "Rolling the Weather Dice: Order out of Randomness in Weather and Climate".

This is a free event, but it is recommended that you register to reserve your seats.

Description:

Atmospheric variability is notoriously difficult to predict. Because of the complexity of this variability, perspectives from probability theory provide a natural framework for understanding and predicting atmospheric changes. I will talk about the ways in which such perspectives help bring order to randomness when thinking about weather and climate.
