About West My Friend
Since West My Friend was conceived in a Victoria cafe in 2009, the band has been a vital force in the new generation of grassroots folk music in our province, its acoustic blend of instruments and four-part harmonies being described as everything from indie roots to chamber folk. The band members dedication to their community is reflected in their strong ties to organizations such as the Music for Youth Works Society, the Fernwood Neighborhood Resource Group, and Amnesty International.
West My Friend is made up of Eden Oliver on vocals, guitar, and flute; Alex Rempel on mandolin and vocals; Jeff Poynter on accordion and vocals; and Adam Bailey on bass and vocals. They craft their songs through a collaborative process, each member contributing his or her own ideas to balance detail, intricacy, and counterpoint with moments of simplicity. www.westmyfriend.com
