7:30 PM to 9:00 PM

This City Talk is a preview of Professor Tina Loo's current book project. Within this talk, Loo will explore Canada's tumultuous relationship with urban planners and planning. Focusing on the controversies in 1960s Victoria and Halifax, Loo demonstrates that debates about cities are rooted in contests over citizenship and the state.

Tina Loo is the former Canada Research Chair in Environmental History and current Brenda and David McLean Chair in Canadian Studies at the University of British COlumbia. She is the author of two acclaimed books and numberous award willing articles, including her recent States of Nature: Conserving Canada's Wildlife in the Twentieth Century, which was awarded the Canadian Historical Association's Sir John A. Macdonald Prize and the Harold Adams Innis Prize of the Canadian Federation for the Humanities and Social Sciences.
