BRANDI DISTERHEFT

From her deep resonating upright bass lines and potent improvisations, it is clear that Brandi Disterheft, an accomplished musician hailing from Vancouver and currently residing in New York City, has a healthy respect for the jazz tradition. Her bass mentors include Canadas Don Thompson, Rufus Reid, Niels-Henning Orsted Pedersen, Rodney Whitaker and, more recently
studying with jazz legend Ron Carter. All this gives an indication of her low end pedigree. Few bassists this young have such a mature approach to the instrument or such deep appreciation of jazz icons like Charles Mingus and Duke Ellington or revered songwriters like George Gershwin and Jimmy Van Heusen. But thats where Disteheft lives as a budding jazz musician and composer.
Brandi has now released 3 full length albums, her first being Debut in 2007 (which won her a 2008 Juno Award for Best Traditional Jazz Album Of The Year) followed by 2009s Second Side which brings us to her just released 2012 Gratitude, her third album as a leader and most accomplished outing to date. Recorded in New York City and joined by an all-star crew featuring Renee Rosnes, Vincent Herring, Anne Drummond, Sean Jones and Gregory Hutchison, Disterheft reveals her abundant chops and infinite capacity to swing on this superb Justin Time Records release.
For her Victoria performance at Hermanns Jazz Club she will be accompanied by Dan Kauffman piano and Jesse Cahill drums.
