Whether you are interested in power boats, sail boats, jet-skis, paddle boards or kayaks the CPS Boating Essentials with PCOC Course will help you become more competent, understand the "rules of the road" and be safer on the water. It’s not just about going out; it’s more about getting back safely!!

Topics covered include government regulations, mandatory safety-equipment requirements, "rules of the road" and aids to navigation, chart reading, course plotting and basic navigation skills, the handling boats under both power and sail, docking and anchoring procedures, and the responsibilities of the skipper before, during and after a cruise.

The Boating Essentials with PCOC course will provide you with the opportunity to prepare for and pass your Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) exam.

Upon successful completion of the Boating Essentials examination you will also qualify for a complimentary 1-year full Membership in CPS-ECP (Canada’s largest association of recreational boating enthusiasts) that includes benefits such as discounts on insurance and retail purchases.

Note: the Nanaimo Squadron offers the Boating Essentials Course to a second family member at a reduced rate. The course text is shared between the family members, while each will receive the rest of the student Seamanship kit (Homework Package and Training Chart).
