NATURAL HISTORY PRESENTATION
Victoria Natural History Society: Natural History Night
Blue Ice, White Bear The Raw, the Bleak, the Beautiful
The Inuit, their deep knowledge of wildlife, from Gyrfalcons to Bowhead whales, from berries to muskox, combined with an intuitive ability to adapt, are the human masters of the Arctic. Four thousand years ago their ancestors colonized one of the earths harshest habitats. Their descendants are successfully living there today. Unimaginable cold (-60C), ice, permafrost, and sudden summers dictate the rules to survive in this vast desert. Join George Sirk as he explains how animals and plants have adapted, and their tales of success will be the focus of Novaya Zemlya, an arctic mirage. Over a period of 8 years George has worked as a naturalist guide and covered 20,000 nautical miles of the High Arctic. He hopes to mesmerize and hopefully surprise you.
