Enjoy the beauty of nature.

The cherry blossom festival is a venerated springtime tradition in Japan. Also called Sakura Matsuri, it celebrates the natural beauty of cherry trees, Japanese food, culture, and history. In Japan cherry blossoms symbolize the beauty of clouds due to the fact they bloom en masse. Cherry blooms are also related to the concept of mono no aware which translates as the ah-ness of things like life and love.

The festival self-guided tour will provide the perfect opportunity to explore participating vineyards, galleries, restaurants, farms and shops to taste local food and wine and enjoy our beautiful island. Collect stamps for your blossom festival passport en route to be eligible for special deals and promotions.

Blossom festival events include a concert at Cedar Lane Studio featuring the master of Shakuhachi, bamboo flutist, Takeo Yamashiro on Friday evening. Saturday enjoy music, food and lots of other fun stuff in the Peace Park. This picnic will be hosted by CBC personality and author Arthur Black. The festival will wind up on Sunday with The Taste of Salt Spring at the Harbour House Hotel. Youll be able to sample tasty morsels cooked up by many of Salt Springs finest chefs.

The festival is being organized through the joint effort of the Salt Spring Japanese Garden Society, the Salt Spring Tourism Committee and several local businesses. Ticket proceeds will benefit the Garden Societys efforts to maintain and improve the Peace Park and support their efforts to work for peace, reconciliation and cross cultural unity.
